Surrendering a Pet

Exploring Alternatives to Surrender:

Keeping Pets with Their Families

At the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, we believe in exploring alternatives to surrendering your beloved pet. Many people may feel they're doing what's best for their dog by seeking a new home, but in reality, most dogs are happiest staying in the familiar environment they know and love.

If you find yourself considering surrendering your dog, ask yourself these questions:

  • Can I provide at least 15 minutes of attention to my dog each day?
  • Is my home a safe environment for my dog?
  • Am I able to provide food and water for my dog?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, we encourage you to explore the options available before surrendering your dog. Our goal is to keep dogs with their families whenever possible. Check out the resource links and video below for helpful guidance.

At AWL, we dream of a day when surrendering dogs is no longer necessary, and pets can stay with the families they love. Until then, we're committed to fighting for the well-being of all animals in our community. Together, let's work towards a future where every pet has a loving home.

We encourage you to showcase your pet for adoption on our website's Community Pets page. Simply click the provided link and follow the instructions on the subsequent page.
